Walk me through your resume

Hi, I'm Shannon Houde of Walk of Life Consulting, and I'd like to share with you a tip about interviewing.

There's a question you will always get asked, and it is the most simple question, but it's the easiest one to muck up. Walk me through your resume.

They're not asking you to go back through the chronological history of everything you've ever done, but rather they're asking you to pull out the three to five nuggets of your career to date that are the most relevant to the role you're interviewing for.

That could mean summarizing your international experience, summarizing your journey to date in terms of your roles, summarizing the level that you've worked within organizations from board all the way down to potentially the smallholder farmers, giving us a picture, telling us a story about where you've been in your career journey that's relevant for us.

That's going to make you even more compelling and even more competitive for the role that we're hiring you for.

So remember, do not get trapped into going back through your chronological history of the resume and see that's right in front of them anyway, but rather, tell them that executive summary story and bring it to life. Good luck.
